Going Green
Our pioneering GreenTowers P7 initiative is a comprehensive energy efficiency and alternate energy programme covering 7 high impact initiatives, which are aimed at reducing diesel usage and therefore the carbon footprint.
Objectives:
- Reduce energy dependence from conventional sources of energy
- Increase energy efficiency and reducing energy costs
- Make efforts towards sustainable development and reducing carbon footprint
- Help reduce cost of operations and thus help cellular operators to reach the rural population
Some of our initiatives:
- Solar DG Hybrid: Having been successfully deployed on 1200+ tower sites, it helps in massively reducing noise and emissions from DG sets and also in reducing dependency on diesel, thereby contributing towards low energy intensity and better energy security.
- Variable Speed DCDG: Variable speed DCDG project helps in reducing carbon emission by up to 60%, thus further contributing towards higher energy efficiency and better energy security.
- Fuel Cells, DCFCU, IPMS, GenX & Fuel Catalyst:All 5 sub-projects help in improving local community impact by reducing noise and emission from DG sets and also giving opex saving of up to 25%
- Today, Infratel is the only telecom tower company, which has installed almost 3 MW of solar capacity across our tower network, generating more than 5 mn units of electricity every year.
Future plans:
- Following our success with Solar Energy, we developed a Comprehensive Green Energy & Energy Efficiency program named P7 containing seven such initiatives, which significantly reduces dependency on diesel consumption & hence promote green energy for our Green Tower Network.
- To promote use of power generated using alternate fuels like biomass etc in remote rural areas & supply to cell towers along with community. This we believe helps in providing rural employment & access to electricity.
- Future Green Energy Plans: Use of Wind Energy and other high-energy storage devices to reduce DG running hours
